Professor Anthony Leggett, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2003 and the 2002/2003 Wolf Foundation Prize in Physics for « key insights into the broad range of condensed matter physics », « pioneering contributions to the theory of superconductors and superfluids » and « macroscopic quantum phenomena », is invited as a Université Paul Sabatier Guest Professor at the Laboratoire de Physique Théorique, and the Institut de Recherche sur les Systèmes Atomiques et Moléculaires Complexes (IRSAMC) in April 2012.

Most of the work of Professor Leggett has been devoted to superconductivity, superfluidity (helium 3 and 4 and degenerate atomic gases) and conceptual issues concerning the foundations of quantum mechanics. Some of these topics will be presented during several planned conferences and courses on superconductivity and superfluidity open to the Toulouse scientific community and the general public. [rouge]These research topics will be discussed during an international workshop, From Quantum Foundations to Quantum Fluids to be held on 4, 5 and 6 April 2012 at Université Paul Sabatier.[/rouge]

[rouge]Professor Leggett will give 4 lectures of 2h on superfluids and superconductors at IRSAMC.[/rouge]

[rouge] A special SFP - IRSAMC seminar will be given by Professor Tony Leggett on the foundations of Quantum Physics on Monday 23rd of April 2012, 14h, amphi Schwartz.[/rouge]
