The doom of ergodicity in open and driven quantum systems

Alberto Rosso (LPTMS, Orsay)

par Revaz Ramazashvili - 19 juin 2018

Recent studies have predicted that the presence of strong disorder can prevent thermalization in quantum system (a phenomenon that goes under the name of many-body localisation). However a small coupling with the external world is always present and ergodicity should be recovered at late times in all physical systems.

We will see that this is not the case if the system is driven out of equilibrium. In particular we will discuss the performance of dynamic nuclear polarisation protocols when the strength of the disorder is varied. Our results will be compared with recent NMR experiments.
