Alignment vs noise : a simple but non-trivial framework for active matter

Hugues Chaté (SPEC, CEA-Saclay)

par Gabriel LeMarié - 6 janvier 2015

The simplest models for collective motion and active matter are those where alignment interactions are in competition with noise. In this framework, the now famous Vicsek model and its siblings offer both non-trivial phenomenology and a good test bed for continuous theories of active matter. I will give an updated account of our current understanding of these issues, putting the emphasis on the new physics exhibited by active matter systems.
