Exploiting the inherent entanglement in strongly correlated systems for quantum information tasks

Entanglement as an extreme quantum correlation can be considered as a resource for many quantum information and computation tasks. For instance, it enhances the quality and the rate of quantum communication between two separated points. Here, we show that the inherent entanglement in the ground state of strongly correlated systems, which is usually useless for practical tasks, can be converted to something useful through the dynamics of the system followed by a local action. There are immediate applications for such proposals in optical lattice experiments.
