Quantum conductance of a nanosystem where electrons interact : Universality and sensitivity to external scatterers

The quantum conductance of a nanosystem inside which electrons interact can be described [1] by a universal function of the ratio of two energy scales. This result will be shown using spinless fermions (spin polarized electrons) in a one dimensional lattice embedding a small interacting region. The used model is invariant under inversion symmetry and can exhibit an orbital Kondo effect yielded by this symmetry. The effective quantum transmission of the interacting region can be changed if there are external scatterers in the outside leads. The implication of this non local effect upon the images of a quantum point contact given by a scanning gate microscope will be discussed [2].
